Frequently Asked Questions
Do I Need an Appointment?
Yes, CMSG accepts referrals by appointment only. However, if your pet is
experiencing a serious medical emergency, you may bring him or her to CMSG
immediately. Doctors are on premises 24 hours a day; emergency cases are
triaged in order of severity.
Can I Feed My Pet or Give Medication Before Our Appointment?
Check with your family veterinarian regarding these details. Some diagnostic tests
require a patient to be fasted for several hours prior to the visit.
What Should I Bring to Our Appointment?
Please bring your pet, and someone familiar with his or her medical history. Bring a
complete set of your pet's medical records, including laboratory test results, original
x-rays and ultrasounds performed by your family veterinarian. Bring all of your pet's
current medications and nutritional supplements in their original, labeled bottles.
What Should I Expect During Our First Visit?
During your pet's initial visit, you will meet one of our internists or surgeons, who
will take a detailed history and perform a comprehensive physical examination. The
specialist will review your pet's previous records along with his or her findings, and
discuss a treatment plan with you.
Will My Pet Need to Stay at CMSG?
Most diagnostic tests can be completed within a few hours of your appointment.
Surgery and other procedures involving anesthesia may require your pet to stay
overnight. If your pet is very ill, he or she may require hospitalization in our 24 hour
intensive care unit.
Is My Pet Alone at Night and Can I Visit?
Our 24 hour intensive care unit is staffed by doctors and nurses around the clock to
provide continuous care for your pet. We encourage visiting while your pet is in our
care. Please call to let us know when you'd like to come.
Will I Receive an Estimate?
Yes, after the specialist has finished examining your pet and has outlined a plan
with you, a detailed estimate will be presented. If your pet is to be hospitalized, you
will be updated regularly on your pet's bill. Feel free to ask us for an update at any
time. A deposit will be required prior to the start of treatment.
